Designs On: VitaFlower

What if a vitamin regimen could be beautiful? An internal design challenge around packaging at IDEO led us to question whether there might be a way to transform the mess of vitamin bottles on kitchen countertops into something more appealing.

Designers across the globe were asked to collaborate with a partner in their home studio. Keun Chang and I teamed up at IDEO Chicago to create VitaFlower, a way to elevate the everyday vitamin regimen.

The brief was to choose an everyday object, select a verb, and pick an emotion. For example– the object: an alarm clock, the verb: to vibrate, the emotion: excitement— would set out a challenge to design an alarm clock that elicits excitement through vibration.

Kuen and I gave ourselves this prompt:

Noun: Vitamins

Verb: Bloom

Emotion: Happiness

Voilà: Vita Flower. Vitamins become a beautiful bouquet, bringing a bit of color and beauty to the breakfast table.

Our design became the cover image for Phaidon's coverage of the work, and you can read more about the other packaging designs on IDEO's site here.

Top designs from across the global studios were compiled into a booklet distributed internally at IDEO.
