Bluntspeak

Bluntspeak artwork by Pam Daniels.

Bluntspeak calls attention to the fragility of our rights. The large-scale piece measures 30 x 72 inches. MDF was coated with India ink and then milled, so the lettering stands proud of the natural wood background. The corners were then wrapped with packing tape found at a home goods store in Italy.

Inspiration for this piece comes from the bold and beautiful work of my friend and colleague, Ben Blount.

sawdust covers a sheet of wood with bold black lettering showing through which says OUR RIGHTS

After milling but before the shop vac.

This work was first exhibited at the Kimball Arts Center during the Super Surface Art Show in November 2023. For similar thematic works, see also “Fair is Fair” and “(A Woman is More than) A Vase with a Face.”
