A Vase with a Face

artwork with pink and grey background with curvy white vases in foreground

(A Woman is More Than) A Vase with a Face artwork by Pam Daniels.

This work emerged in the wake of the overturning of Roe v Wade. The piece, entitled (A Woman is More Than) A Vase with a Face, is a provocation intended to question the woman as mere vessel. The vase shapes reference the work of pioneering industrial designer Eva Zeisel, who designed the Centerpiece line of ceramics in collaboration with KleinReid at age 93.

The large-scale piece measures 32 1⁄4 x 48 inches. Paper and wheatpaste on plywood with gesso and acrylic.

Work in process. Laser cut frisket film helped create the sharp outlines of the vases which were done in gesso.

This work was first exhibited at the Kimball Arts Center during the Super Surface Art Show in November 2023. For similar thematic works, see also “Fair is Fair” and “Bluntspeak.”
